Jean-Paul Deliet, nicknamed "Beanpole", is one of the main protagonists of The Tripods franchise. He is a French boy around the age of 13, with an inventive and curious mind who joined Will and Henry to flee from the rule of the Tripods and join the human resistance in the White Mountains.

Jean-Paul is very curious and perceptive, sometimes going out of his way to just examine a gadget or anything he might want to understand. Although it can be hard for him to convince other people to let him make such examinations. He is very intellectual and has a logical way of thinking. He is also highly creative, having developed a makeshift pair of spectacles for himself due to his poor eyesight.
